Nadrowski taps brother, longtime Bayonne officer, to helm public safety

Bayonne Mayor-elect Sharon Ashe Nadrowski tapped James Ashe, her brother and a longtime Bayonne police officer, to serve as the city’s public safety director. 

Ashe served in the Bayonne Police Department from 1988 to 2020. For more than a decade, he was Bayonne’s municipal counter-terrorism coordinator, and he also worked as the deputy coordinator for the Office of Emergency Management.

“His extensive experience in law enforcement, emergency management, interagency coordination, and public administration make him exceptionally well-positioned to lead our public safety efforts,” Nadrowski said in a release. “My brother Jimmy is clearly qualified for this important position because he understands our community and has earned the trust and respect of his colleagues and residents alike. He will be an invaluable member of our administration.”

For the last five years, he has worked as the manager of the Bayonne Agency for the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.

“I appreciate the opportunity, as Public Safety Director, to build upon the public trust that has been placed in this office,” Ashe said. “I am honored and look forward to working alongside Mayor Nadrowski and the entire administration as we balance the demands of public safety with the fiscal realities of government.”

Nadrowski won the mayorship in last month’s non-partisan municipal election. She’ll take office on July 1.
