Morris County Commissioner wants to join Trump administration

Christine Myers looks to go through federal revolving door again; unclear if her support for Christie ’24 will hurt her

Morris County Commissioner Christine Myers is actively seeking a job in Donald Trump’s administration while campaigning for re-election in the June primary, the New Jersey Globe has confirmed.

This could be the second instance of a revolving door between Myers and the federal government: she took a job at the Small Business Administration in late 2017 and served the remaining year of her term.  She was replaced in early 2020 after Joe Biden took office, and returned to county government in 2022 after County Commissioner Kathy DeFilippo declined to seek a third term.

Still, it’s not clear if the White House will hold Myers’ $1,000 campaign contribution to Chris Christie’s 2024 campaign against Trump against her.   Myers is a longtime Christie ally.

Myers announced her re-election bid on January 21, after submitting her resume to the Trump transition team.

This sets up a narrow window for other candidates to jump in the race before the March 24 filing deadline if Myers secures an appointment.  It also means Myers could file her petition and have her three-person committee on vacancies give away her spot in the Republican primary.

If Myers wins the primary and then exits the race, county committee members in Morris County would meet to pick a replacement candidate.

In 2017, with a job offer from the SBA in hand, Myers still held a fundraiser to boost her campaign coffers.

For a brief period in 2018, Christie allies tried to convince Myers to leave the SBA to run for the House seat of retiring Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-Harding) in New Jersey’s 11th district.  She met with the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).
