Republican freeholder candidates seeking re-election have taken the lead against Democratic challengers in Monmouth County.
Freeholder Director Lillian Burry is now in first place with 112,175 votes. Ross Licitra, her running mate, has 111,286.
Democrats Michael Penna and Moira Nelson have 109,744 and 108,418 votes, respectively.
Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon holds a commanding lead over Democratic challenger Angela Ahbez-Andreson, who has 99,463 votes to Hanlon’s 124,012.
Despite the Republican gains, Democratic candidates at the top of the ticket continue to lead their Republican opponents. Former Vice President Joe Biden is ahead of President Donald Trump by 15,986 votes, 121,759-105,773.
U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-Newark) is ahead of Republican Rik Mehta there by about 10,000 votes. He leads his challenger 116,718-106,657.
Biden and Booker have both won their statewide races.
