Central Jersey hit by small quake early Wednesday morning

Central New Jersey was hit by a small earthquake early Tuesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

At about 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, a 3.1 magnitude quake hit Freehold and surrounding areas, mainly those in Monmouth County.

There were no reported injuries or deaths, thought roughly 6,000 residents reported to USGS that they the quake.

Monmouth County Sheriff Sean Golden told WNBC the quake did not appear to have caused any damage.
