Schirmer lead expands to 184 in race for Mercer GOP state committee seat

Former Hamilton Councilwoman Ileana Schirmer’s lead in a contested race for Mercer County Republican State committee is up to 184 votes.

Schirmer leads Trenton GOP Municipal Chairwoman Jennifer Williams 3,827-3,643 for the party post.

It’s unclear how many provisional ballots were cast in Tuesday’s Republican primary in Mercer County, though none have been counted yet, county elections officials told the New Jersey Globe.

Williams, who would be the first trans woman to hold a GOP State Committee seat should she win, mounted an off-the-line challenge against Schirmer after losing a 75-48 vote for the line before the county Republican organization in March.

She trailed the county-backed candidate by 48 votes on election night.

Election officials will continue to accept mail-in ballots postmarked by election day until Monday. As a guard against double-voting, provisional ballots won’t be canvassed until mail-in ballot counts are finalized.
