U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez won’t back either side in the upcoming May 14 West New York municipal election.

“I know people on both sides, and I’m not engaged,” Menendez told the New Jersey Globe when asked if he would make an endorsement in the race.

West New York Mayor Felix Roque is facing off a county-backed challenge from Commissioner Gabriel Rodriguez and his slate of candidates.

Rep. Albio Sires, a longtime Menendez ally, is campaigning against Roque and said Thursday he intends knock on doors until the race is decided on May 14.

Sires, a former West New York mayor, and Roque feuded during last year’s Hudson warette.

Menendez, who got his political start in Union City, largely kept clear of the Democratic spat.
