Middlesex County Democratic Chairman Kevin McCabe was re-elected by acclamation tonight, two weeks after his preferred candidate in the gubernatorial primary, Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), won by a thirteen-point margin.
Sherrill and Democratic State Chairman LeRoy Jones attended tonight’s meeting.
Beatrice Moskowitz was re-elected vice chair.
McCabe, a former state labor commissioner, was first elected county chairman in 2013.
In 2023, McCabe defeated Charlie Kratovil for a third time, winning with 89% of the vote. He had easily defeated Kratovil in 2021 and Herb Tarbous, now a member of the Green Party, in 2019.
Middlesex County has the state’s largest regional legislative delegation, including Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin.
Democrats have a 7-0 majority on the Board of Commissioners, a sheriff, a county clerk, and a surrogate. Under McCabe’s leadership, seven of the ten countywide officials are women, and six of ten are non-white.
