The two Democratic assemblymen who represent Atlantic City want Mayor Frank Gilliam to resign following his admission that he stole more than $87,000 from a youth basketball league.
“Mayor Gilliam broke the public’s trust and he cannot continue to serve as Mayor of Atlantic City,” said Vince Mazzeo (D-Northfield). “He should do the right thing and resign immediately.”
John Armato (D-Buena) says the city needs new leadership following Gilliam’s guilty plea.
“We have seen some great progress in Atlantic City, and it is a shame that it’s overshadowed by the Mayor’s scandal,” Armato said. “He needs to resign, and fresh leadership is needed in Atlantic City.”
Asked if Mazzeo and Armato had confidence in Gilliam’s likely replacement, Marty Small, campaign manager Rich DiCriscio said, “We have confidence in the continued renaissance of Atlantic City, despite these temporarily difficult times.”
