Matt Anderson, a top advisor to State Sen. Vin Gopal, has won a special election for Democratic state committeeman from Monmouth County.

He will fill the seat left vacant last year when Bill Robinson resigned following issues with Democratic congressional candidate Tiffany Kaszuba.

Anderson served as executive director of the Monmouth Democrats when Gopal was county chairman, and served as chief of staff to 11th district Assembly members Joann Downey (D-Freehold) and Eric Houghtaling (D-Neptune).

The 26-year-old Anderson has played a major role in Democratic local victories over the last few years, including his hometown of Red Bank, Atlantic Highlands, Matawan and Neptune City.  He works at Direct Development, the marketing and communications firm run by Gopal.

He is chairman of Millennials for NJ, which he helped form last year to help young Democratic candidates seeking public office.

Anderson will fill the remaining fourteen months of Robinson’s term.
