Lambertville Council incumbents backed by Mayor Julia Fahl trail challengers backed by former Mayor David Delvecchio.
Council President Beth Asaro is in third with 500 votes, while Councilwoman Madeline Urbish is in last with 484.
Delvecchio-backed candidate Steven Stegman leads the race with 609 votes, while his running mate, Benedetta Lambert, is not far behind with 593 votes.
A fifth candidate, David Ringer, received 45 votes.
“While the vote count is still unofficial, it appears Beth and Maddy did not win re-election. We are obviously disappointed, but we have been so encouraged by the time, energy, and love that so many in town have given to us and our campaign,” the incumbents said in a post to their Facebook page. “We feel good about the campaign that we ran – one based on facts and a true representation of the work we have and will continue to do on behalf of Lambertville.”
Fahl, then 27 years old, ousted 28-year Mayor Delvecchio in a 10-point victory in 2018.
