Jurors deliberated for about two hours on Friday in the federal tax evasion trial of Ocean County Republican chairman George Gilmore, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.
U.S. District Court Judge Anne Thompson instructed the jury that they must determine whether Gilmore’s failure to pay income taxes was intentional and not simply negligent.
“This entire case is a civil dispute masquerading as a criminal case,” the Press quoted Gilmore attorney Kevin Marino as saying.
Deliberations resume on Monday morning.
