A Republican warette in Wyckoff led to the defeat of two candidates running on the organization line.

Mayor Thomas Madigan and his running mate, Mae Bogdansky, defeated Township Committeeman Timothy Shanley and Wyckoff GOP Municipal Chairman Drita McNamara.

Madigan finished first with 1,150 votes, three ahead of Bogdansky.  Shanley received 928 votes, and McNamara, the District 40 Republican chair, came in last with 873.

In a race for an unexpired term, interim Committeeman Roger Lane defeated Christopher Joachim, a firefighter, 1,117-914, a margin of ten percentage points.  Lane ran with Madigan and Bogdansky.

Lane was appointed to fill a vacancy earlier this year after Scott Fisher resigned just weeks after winning re-election.

This is Lane’s second act in Bergen County politics.  He had served as a mayor and councilman in New Milford from 1980 to 1989.

In 1988, Lane was the Republican nominee for Congress in New Jersey’s 9th district.  He lost to three-term incumbent Bob Torricelli (D-Englewood) by 3,649 votes, 67%-32%.
