Hunterdon Democratic convention underway

The first-in-the-state convention to award an organization line for the June 2 Democratic presidential primary is underway in Hunterdon County.

Eight presidential candidates had their names placed in nomination: Joe Biden, Mike Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Deval Patrick, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Andrew Yang.

Michael Bennet, Tulsi Gabbard, and Tom Steyer did not receive nominations and their names will not appear on the ballot.

Bloomberg will be nominated by Lambertville school board member Meagan Warner, the president of the College Democrats of New Jersey.  Lambertville Democratic municipal chairman Derek Roseman, a top aide to Gov. Phil Murphy, will second Bloomberg’s nomination.

Flemington Mayor Betsy Driver is nominating Buttigieg, with Flemington Councilwoman Caitlin Giles-McCormick delivering the seconding speech.  Raj Parikh, the counsel to the New Jersey Democratic State Committee will speak on behalf of Buttigieg.

Rob Dowkontt-Richard is nominating Warren and Joey Novick, a former Hunterdon County Demcoratic Chairman and Flemington councilman, is nominating Sanders.

Democratic State Committee vice chair Peg Schaffer addressed the convention.
