A pair of Republican county commissioners in Hunterdon County have fended off a Democratic challenge, keeping the historically red county in unanimous GOP hands.
Commissioners Jeff Kuhl and Susan Soloway won another term against Democratic challengers Robert Parkanyi, a former Clinton Township Council candidate, and Dan Connor, the Franklin Township Democratic municipal chair, by solid margins. As of 11:11 p.m., the Republicans have a combined vote share of 58%, while the two Democrats have just 42%.
Former Rep. Tom Malinowski recently took over Hunterdon’s Democratic Party, and there were some hopes that Democrats could make some inroads in the county this year. But with former President Donald Trump set to carry the county by around eight percentage points, up from four points in 2020, those hopes were dashed.
