GOP takes control in Millburn, but Democrat holds on to one seat by 27 votes

With all of the ballots counted, Millburn Deputy Mayor Michael Cohen, a Democrat, has held on to win re-election by a narrow 27-vote margin.  He had previously trailed Republican Kris Heinrichs by one vote as of two days ago, but gained during the counting of vote-by-mail and provisional ballots.

The election of Republican Jamie Serruto, 24,  the top vote-getter, gives Republicans a 3-2 majority on the Millburn Township Committee.  This is the first Republican majority in nearly a decade.

Cohen defeated Heinrichs, 3,828 to 3,801.  Serruto received 3,934 votes, and the other Democrat in the race, Mayor Annette Romano, finished fourth with 3,795 votes.

Democrats were boosted by vote-by-mail ballots: Cohen received 1,910 and Henrichs got 797; Cohen won provisional ballots, 107-79.  Heinrichs won the Election Day vote by 466, and early voting by 21.
