Lyndhurst Mayor Robert Giangeruso has won a sixth term as a township commissioner with his Lyndhurst Strong slate appearing to sweep all five seats in an 11-candidate field.

Giangeruso (1,929) was the top vote getter, with incumbents Louis DeMarco (1,841), Karen Haggerty (1,738), and Richard Jarvis Sr. (1,708) also winning re-election.  David Mateen (1,855) won the fifth seat.

Commissioner John Montillo, Jr. (1,669) appears to have lost a bid for another term; he trails Jarvis by 39 votes.  His Lyndhurst Pride slate — Dominick Abbate Jr. (1,148), Darius Hughes (1,483),  Theresa Sedlock (1,307), and Stephen Morinho (1,148) – were defeated.

Giangeruso complained about the “lies and allegations of overdevelopment” from his opponents.

“You want to run for office?  You want to run? With respect. I ran a clean campaign, and I am proud of my team,” he said.  “All they do is hide behind their mask and slander us.”

Former Mayor Richard DiLascio, who launched his political career as a school board member in 1982, finished last, with 855 votes, less than half the votes of the fifth-place finisher.  A Republican, DiLascio lost a bid for the State Senate in the 36th district GOP primary in 1997, and came within 1,203 votes of winning an Assembly seat in 2003.
