Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop appears to have mended fences with other Hudson County Democrats.
Fulop, who fell out of favor with Democrats on both sides of last year’s warette in Hudson County following the end of the same, appeared alongside, among others, Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, Hudson County Democratic Chairwoman Amy DeGise and State Sen. Nick Sacco at the latter’s mayoral campaign kickoff Monday night.
“When the new mayors get elected — whether it’s Jimmy Davis, whether it’s Ravi Bhalla, whether it’s myself — one of the first people to reach out and put their arm around us and tell us ‘this is how government works’ and ‘this is what good government and good policy can be like’ and ‘this is how you build parks,’ it’s always Nick Sacco,” Fulop told the crowd of roughly 1,000.
The fact that Fulop gave a speech at the event is a sign of his rising fortune in and of itself.
Though several other mayors were in attendance — including Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner and Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli — Fulop was the only mayor apart from Sacco to address the crowd.
Union City Mayor and State Sen. Brian Stack gave a short speech before the event began because of a scheduling conflict.
