Essex County Democrats will hold a forum next month for presidential campaigns to make their pitch to party leaders.

County chairman LeRoy Jones, Jr. announced the decision for a non-binding program at a party executive committee attended by municipal chairs and some local elected officials last night.  The forum will be open to county committee members and Essex County elected officials.

Jones says he has not yet decided who will get the organization line in Essex, the top vote-producing county in a statewide Democratic primary.

Essex County has 278,362 registered Democrats, about 12% of the statewide total.

Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) endorsed Mike Bloomberg for president last week.  Former Gov. Richard Codey, Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) and State Sen. Ronald Rice (D-Newark) are backing Joe Biden.

Jones does not have to make a final decision on the Essex line until the first week in April.
