The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission fined Gloucester County Republicans $9,800 on Wednesday for failing to properly disclose a $25,000 donation in 2022.
The Gloucester County Republican Executive Committee failed to file notice of the donation within 48 hours of its receipt, a requirement for contributions above $1,900. Republican State Chairman Bob Hugin contributed the $25,000 on May 12, 2022, according to ELEC’s database.
The violation occurred while Jacci Vigilante served as county chair. Adam Wingate defeated her last month.
“We are going to fulfill our obligation to ELEC, as we are one Republican Party in Gloucester County,” Wingate said. “But we are not going to let this inhibit winning seats.”
Hugin’s $25,000 donation was the largest contribution to the Gloucester GOP’s executive committee in 2022.
The commission’s final decision notes the PAC has already paid $1,568, and the final $7,840 should be paid in installments by July 15 next year.
ELEC fined four other local candidates for campaign finance disclosure violations. ELEC fined Hussain Kolani, who lost the 2022 election for Hudson County Sheriff, a total of $575 for failing to file primary and general election finance reports.
ELEC issued $275 fines to Mordechai Gross, a candidate for municipal office in Ocean County; Carol Casper, a municipal candidate in Cumberland County; and Marvin Pierce Jr., a municipal candidate also from Cumberland County. Each failed to file reports for the 2022 general election.
