Atlantic County Democrat have picked a retired businesswoman to take on Republican County Commissioner Richard Dase in the general election.

Kathleen Galante will replace Jay Shah, who dropped out of the race for personal reasons.

“I am a robust advocate for voting rights, combating the negative effects of climate change, and protecting a woman’s right to choose,” said Galante, who ran a catering business for 20 years.

Galante and Dase are facing off in a newly drawn Atlantic County’s District 4, which includes Brigantine, Galloway, Port Republic and part of Egg Harbor Township.

Dase, a public school teacher and former aide to Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-Ventnor), is the strong favorite to win a sixth term.

He served on the Galloway Township Council before winning a freeholder seat in 2007.  He was re-elected in 2019 with 57% of the vote against Absecon Councilman Steve Light.
