By David Wildstein, June 23 2021 7:34 pm

A challenge to Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis for Democratic municipal chairman fizzled on Wednesday after his challenger, Mary Jane Desmond, dropped out of the race.

Desmond, a former city councilwoman and acting Hudson County Clerk, has entered the race against Davis on Monday but was unable to secure someone to second her nomination.

In a race for vice chair, Rose Martinez defeated Erica Daughtrey, 69-22.  Martinez is a former chief of staff to Davis and Daughtrey is an aide to Rep. Albio Sires (D-West New York).

Turnout of the 102-member Bayonne Democratic County Committee was 89%.
