Monmouth Democratic Party chairman David Brown announced today that he will run for re-election with endorsements from most prominent Monmouth County and statewide Democrats, including Rep. Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch), Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), State Sen. Vin Gopal (D-Long Branch), state party chairman LeRoy Jones Jr., and a long list of local elected officials.
“I am honored to be running for another term with an incredible slate of dedicated public servants and with significant support from our party,” Brown said in a statement. “Our work here isn’t finished. Monmouth County continues to build our organization and flip seats across the county. I look forward to having another opportunity to grow our party and lead us to further victories in the upcoming years.”
Brown, a resident of Long Branch who once worked in local government in Newark and Roselle, took control of the state party after then-chairman Gopal left in 2017 to successfully run for State Senate.
As party chairman, Brown oversaw Gopal’s victory that year as well as that of Gopal’s running mates, Assemblymembers Joann Downey (D-Freehold) and Eric Houghtaling (D-Neptune). Both Downey and Houghtaling lost last year, however, and Monmouth Democrats have been unable to break through in any countywide races.
Joining Brown on his re-election ticket this year is vice chairwoman Mary Foster, corresponding secretary Norma Rosenbloom, sergeant-at-arms Nicholas Williams, and Deana Gunn and Meg Thomann, who are running for recording secretary and treasurer, respectively.
