COVID-19 concerns lead to cancellation of Essex Dem presidential forum

By David Wildstein, March 12 2020 4:32 pm

Essex County Democrats have cancelled a forum for presidential campaigns to make their pitch to party leaders to avoid exposing party members to the coronavirus.

County chairman LeRoy Jones, Jr. had announced a non-binding program for county committee members and Essex County elected officials last month, at a time when there were seven candidates still in the race for the Democratic nomination.

Jones has not yet decided who will get the organization line in Essex, the top vote-producing county in a statewide Democratic primary.

Essex County has 278,362 registered Democrats, about 12% of the statewide total.
