Perth Amboy Councilman Helmin Caba and his slate of council candidates pledged to keep their campaign out of the mud even as it launched attacks against the opposing candidates Wednesday.
“Unqualified opponents are trying to frighten voters with ‘fake news’ about water contamination and to smear our dedicated police officers. Amateur scare-tactics, like those, are shameful,” Caba said. “I am confident voters clearly see that Rose, B.J. and I are the only candidates on the Nov. 3rd ballot to provide truthful, positive and sensible solutions to make Perth Amboy a better place to live, raise families and work.”
The city has struggled with lead and other contaminants in its water supply.
Caba, Perth Amboy’s Democratic municipal chairman, is running to oust Mayor Wilda Diaz. He also faces attorney Joseph B. Vas, the son of former Mayor Joseph Vas.
The councilman is running on a slate with Rose Brion Morales and BJ Torres Jr.
“People who live, work and own businesses in Perth Amboy deserve real solutions to the very real issues that our city faces. We are the only candidates to offer sensible answers and innovative ideas,” Caba and his slate said in a joint statement.
