Bhalla bashed young Crowley challenger

Hoboken mayor campaign for Queens congressman

Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla was on the losing side in New York’s 14th district congressional primary last night.  Bhalla campaigned for Rep. Joe Crowley, who lost his bid for re-election in an upset that ends his path to become the House Democratic leader.

Bhalla’s connection to Crowley was through Vijay Chaudhuri, who had worked in Crowley’s legislative office before coming to Hoboken as chief of staff to Mayor Dawn Zimmer.  Chaudhuri managed Bhalla’s campaign for mayor in 2017.

There was something in Bhalla’s remarks that might come back to haunt the Hoboken mayor: his attack on the 28-year-old winner in the race against Crowley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“It’s not amateur hour in Washington,” Bhalla told a group in Queens recently.  “We cannot have inexperienced people in the twenties.”

Expect this clip to surface whenever Bhalla supports a young candidate going forward.
