Democratic Bergen County Commissioners Joan Voss (D-Fort Lee) and Rafael Marte (D-Bergenfield) have successfully defended their seats, defeating Republicans Agninshalah Collins and Mary Jo-Ann Guinchard.
As of 12:49 a.m., Voss has 28.5% of the vote and Marte has 27.6%, ahead of Guinchard’s 22.3% and Collins’s 21.7%.
With this win, Voss is set to serve her fifth term as a Bergen County Commissioner, while Marte won his first full term on the board; he won a special election earlier this year when Commissioner Ramon Hache (D-Ridgewood) resigned to become the president of the Ridgewood YMCA.
Voss previously served four terms in the Assembly and was a Fort Lee councilman. She left the Assembly in 2011, after redistricting put her in a new district.
Guinchard previously served as mayor of Tuxedo Park, New York and mounted an off-the-line campaign for county commissioner last year, but lost. Collins, a political newcomer, works in the insurance industry.
Republicans have not won a countywide election in Bergen County since 2013.
