After 24 years in office, Bass River Mayor Deborah Buzby-Cope appears to have lost her re-election bid, finishing fourth in a race for three seats on the Board of Commissioners.
Incumbent Nicholas Capriglione was the top vote-getter with 198, with newcomer Rick Adams, a local businessman, finishing second with 168 votes. Deputy Mayor Deputy Mayor Louis Bourguignoin leads Buzby-Cope by 12 votes for the third seat.
First elected commissioner in 2000, Buzby-Cope has been the mayor for sixteen years; she ran on a slate with the two incumbents. She lost races for Burlington County Surrogate in 2021 and County Clerk in 2023.
In Medford Lakes, Joseph Aromando III lost his 15th bid for a borough council seat. Deputy Mayor William Fields (564) was re-elected to his third term. Matthew Bailey (560) and Gerald Yowell (518) won open seats, defeating Aromando (226).
Mayor Gary Miller and Councilwoman Gail Caputo did not seek re-election.
