New Jerseyan Matt Mowers is teaming up with former Kean for Congress staffer John Callaghan to form a new global public strategy firm, Valcour.

Mowers, a former aide to Gov. Chris Christie who ran for Congress twice in New Hampshire and his new firm will allow him to maintain his own political organization there, an asset of enormous value with Republicans intent on preserving the state as the first-in-the-nation presidential primary.

His firm’s strategic advisory board utilizes contacts he made while serving in the Trump administration a senior official at the U.S. Department of State.  Mowers began his career as a young GOP operative in New Jersey and moved to New Hampshire after the 2013 election to serve as executive director of the state Republican Party and then as Christie’s campaign manager there.

“Valcour is a full-service global public strategy firm that guides clients to shape public policy, political opinion and media,” Mowers said. “We bring experience from the highest levels of government, political campaigns, international affairs and media as well as an unparalleled network of bipartisan relationships from 50 states and multiple continents.”

Callaghan worked on Mowers’ congressional campaign and on the Trump-Pence re-election in New Hampshire.  In 2022, he served as political coordinator for Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) in New Jersey’s 7th district, where Kean unseated two-term Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes).

Valcour will be a bipartisan firm, with former Obama administration official Joel Rubin also signing on.  Rubin was the Jewish outreach director for Bernie Sanders’s 2020 presidential bid and served as Deputy Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for legislative affairs.    Valcour also includes Scott Merrick, who worked on 2020 presidential campaigns for Amy Klobuchar and Joe Biden and spent seven years as Democratic U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s deputy state director.

Jaime Figueras, the former Trump-Pence Florida state director in 2020 and most recently the National Hispanic Engagement director for the Republican National Committee, has also joined Mowers’ firm.
