A top official in the New Jersey Senate Republican office is leaving state government to join a Trenton government relations and association management firm.

Rebecca Hughes, the Senate Republican deputy research director, is joining Advocacy & Management Group (AMG), the firm headed by former Commissioner of Labor AJ Sabath.

Last year, Hughes was elected to the Chesterfield Township Committee.  She was the top vote-getter with 914, winning with Denise Koetas-Dale (905).   Hughes’ running mate, William Berger, finished fourth with 884 votes, followed by Democrat Timothy Beggs (863).   She replaced Republican Jeremy Liedtka, who did not seek re-election.

“Rebecca’s deep legislative policy background will be a huge asset to the firm, and we are so pleased to welcome her as Vice President,”  Sabath said.  “We are looking forward to Rebecca sharing her years’ of experience in state government to help AMG clients navigate the challenging labyrinth of state government.”

Hughes has worked for the Senate Republicans since 2016, focusing on education and environment policy issues.    She worked for three Senate minority leaders: Thomas Kean, Steve Oroho, and Anthony Bucco.

Also at AMG are Lynn Haynes, a former deputy chief of staff to Gov. Phil Murphy and deputy executive director and counsel to the Senate Majority Office when Steve Sweeney was Senate President, and Marshall Spevak, a former top aide to legislators in Atlantic City and former Rep. John Adler (D-Cherry Hill).  Rachel Holland works with AMG’s association management team.
