Teaneck Mayor James Dunleavy has endorsed Gordon Johnson for State Senate in the 37th district, giving the Assembly Speaker Pro-Tempore his sixth mayoral endorsement for his bid to succeed Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg.
“We know Assemblyman Johnson as a former member of law enforcement, with a long history of dedicated public service. As Senator, he will represent all of his constituents in a fair and principled manner,” Dunleavy said. “”I look forward to continue working with Gordon to improve the empowerment, information and involvement of all of our citizens.”
Johnson faces Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle for the support of the Bergen County Demcoratic organization line.
The two veteran legislators entered the race shortly after Weinberg announced her retirement earlier this month.
Johnson has received support from Englewood Mayor Michael Wildes, Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich, Palisades Park Mayor Christopher Chung, Leonia Mayor Judah Ziegler, and Tenafly Mayor Mark Zinna.
Dunleavy became mayor in July 2020.
