Mick Marion considering Assembly run if 21st district seat opens up

Warren Township Committeeman Mick Marion is mulling a bid for State Assembly in the 21st district.

Marion, who served as mayor in 2020, is among a number of Republicans preparing to run for an open seat if Thomas Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) gives up his State Senate seat to mount another congressional run in 2022.

Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield) is ready to run for the Senate if Kean doesn’t, opening an Assembly seat on a ticket with incumbent Nancy Munoz (R-Summit.)

The 55-year-old Marion was first elected to the township committee in 2011.

Warren Township Committeewoman Jolanta Maziarz, who had been discussed as a potential Assembly candidate, will not seek any higher office in 2021, the New Jersey Globe has learned.

Other potential candidates for an open seat include: Summit GOP Chairman Steve Spurr; Watchung Board of Education member Amber Murad; New Providence Councilwoman Michele Matsikoudis; and former Bernards Township Committeeman John Carpenter.
