Singer: Bitter NJ-3 primary fight won’t hurt Richter in November

Brutal intra-party contest left Richter bruised and battered

State Sen. Bob Singer (R-Lakewood) doesn’t think a blistering intra-party fight for the third district’s Republican nod will hurt David Richter in his bid to oust Rep. Andy Kim (D-Marlton).

“I think there’s an understanding of how important it is to take back congress, and I think that both Burlington and Ocean County will stand together to see that congressional candidate Richter will win the day,” Singer said. “I think they’ll both stand together on this.”

Richter, the former CEO of Hill International, defeated former Burlington County Freeholder Kate Gibbs in one of the state’s most vicious primaries of the cycle last week.

Richter attacked Gibbs, a popular figure among Republicans in her home county, over old shoplifting and other minor charges, while Gibbs attacked Richter over his time at Hill, claiming the now-nominee fleeced New Jersey taxpayers to line his own pockets.

That race is over, and Singer said he thinks the hatchet is as good as buried.

“It’s too important an election to let past problems get in the way of doing the right thing,” he said. “So, I think it’s going to be fine.”
