Richter files to challenge Smith in NJ-4 primary

By David Wildstein, March 16 2020 11:48 pm

Alter Eliezer Richter, a Lakewood rabbi who has led public protests against Pride Month celebrations, filed nomination petitions to challenge Rep. Christopher Smith (R-Hamilton) in the 4th district Republican primary.

“Chris Smith is great, but we need a street fighter like Alter Elizer Richter to expose the devil/deep state,” his campaign said.

Richter pledged to spend all his campaign funds on advertising.

“(The) campaign’s purpose only for campaign costs and nothing else,” Richter said.  “100% of the money received in the bank goes to the campaign.”

Smith won 92% of the vote in his 2016 primary against Bruce MacDonald.  He won 84% against Terrence McGowan in a 2012 primary.

It’s unclear whether the candidacy of David Richter, who is not related to Alter Eliezer Richter, in the next-door 3rd district will have any effect on the race.
