Republicans nominate Munoz, Matsikoudis in District 21

Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz (R-Summit) and New Providence Councilwoman Michele Matsikoudis defeated Jennifer Makar to win nominations for Assembly in the 21st district Tuesday.

Assemblyman Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield) was unopposed in his bid for the GOP nod for State Senate. State Sen. Tom Kean (R-Westfield) did not seek re-election and is widely expected to launch another bid for Congress next year.

Munoz and Matsikoudis ran on organizational lines in each of the district’s three counties, lending them a preferential ballot position in a column with gubernatorial frontrunner Jack Ciattarelli.

Makar, a political newcomer, did not bracket with any other candidates.

The victors will go on to face Mountainside Democratic Municipal Chairwoman Anjali Mehrotra and Bernards Township Democratic Municipal Chairwoman Elizabeth Graner.

Bramnick will face Roselle Park Mayor Joseph Signorello.
