Mullen slams Rooney for attack on labor commissioner

One of the state’s most powerful union leaders bashed Assemblyman Kevin Rooney (R-Wyckoff), calling his attack on New Jersey’s labor commissioner “shameful.”

“In a time of crisis, we look to our leaders to bring us together,” said William Mullen, the president of the New Jersey Building & Construction Trades Council. “A real leader rolls up their sleeves and gets to work as Commissioner Rob Asaro-Angelo has done. They do not throw cheap shots for a headline.”

Rooney today told Asaro-Angelo to either solve the state’s unemployment backlog or resign.

This is not a time to play politics. The people filing for unemployment are not a statistic to be tossed around in political discourse,” Mullen said. “A real leader rolls up their sleeves and gets to work as Commissioner Rob Asaro-Angelo has done. They do not throw cheap shots for a headline.”

Mullen said he believes everyone at the labor department “are working around the clock to meet the needs of the now over one million New Jerseyans who have filed for unemployment.”
