Judiciary Committee approves Stellato for Sports Authority

Nomination now advances to the Senate

The State Senate Judiciary Committee has approved the nomination of Bergen County Democratic Chairman Louis Stellato for a seat on the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.

The full Senate is expected to hold a confirmation vote on Stellato on Thursday.

Stellato has said he will step down as county chairman immediately upon his confirmation by the Senate.

Gov. Phil Murphy had nominated Stellato to replace former Bergen County Republican Chairman Bob Yudin, but State Sen. Gerald Cardinale had declined to sign off due to concerns over the residency.  The governor ultimately withdrew Stellato’s nomination for Yudin’s seat and renominated him for another open seat.

Cardinale signed off on Stellato, but voted no in committee.

Once Stellato resigns, Fairview Public Works Director Paul Juliano is expected to become the new county chairman.
