Republicans in the 36th district are up on the air with a cable TV ad that excoriates Democratic incumbents on culture war issues,.
The ad, Conservative Change, produced by conservative political consultant Rick Shaftan, a New Jersey veteran, mentions only Senate candidate Chris Auriemma, who is taking on Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman Paul Sarlo in the South Bergen-based district, which also includes the city of Passaic.
Embattled Assembly candidate Joseph Viso, who pled guilty to once smearing feces on the door of a Rutherford daycare center because he was upset that Barack Obama had won the presidency, is not mentioned in the ad, although his photo and name appear at the end.
The ad attempts to hold the incumbent lawmakers accountable for decisions on sex education curriculum and gender identity policies in public schools that had been approved by the state Board of Education and not the legislature.
Script: “Taking children from parents who don’t want their boy turned into a girl? It’s now the law, thanks to Sarlo, Schaer, and Calabrese — along with graphic gender identity sex lessons for children as young as five. Sarlo’s been moving to the left for 30 long years and given us skyrocketing taxes, overdevelopment, wokeness, pro-criminal policies, and abortion through birth. Chris Auriemma for Senate. It’s time for a conservative change from Paul Sarlo’s Democrats.”
Auriemma, Viso, and another Assembly candidate, Ariemma’s twin brother, Craig, received a late infusion of cash with a $10,000 personal check from GOP State Chairman Bob Hugin.
