Flynn launches bid to unseat DiMaso

Holmdel School Board President Vicky Flynn has formally launched her challenge to two-term incumbent Serena DiMaso (R-Holmdel) in the race for the Republican nomination for State Assembly in the 13th district.

Flynn has the backing of Monmouth County GOP Chairman Shaun Golden, who is seeking to deny DiMaso party support at the March Republican county convention.

The New Jersey Globe first reported Flynn’s candidacy on February 18.

“It would be a privilege to serve Monmouth County in the legislature to address the challenging issues facing our communities, to fight for small businesses, and to find ways to get our kids back into the classroom,” said Flynn. “I believe now, more than ever, our state requires leadership that promotes fiscally conservative principles to guide our state out of the pandemic towards a more prosperous future.”

Some Monmouth Republicans think DiMaso’s best chance is to fight it out at the convention, acknowledging the difficulty of winning off the organization line.

Also a former Nutley school board member, Flynn launched her campaign for a spot on the organization line with an endorsement from Holmdel Republican Municipal Chair Marcy McMullen.

“We need a leader like Vicky who will promote Republican party values and unity throughout the County. Vicky is the overwhelming choice of the Holmdel Republican County Committee,” McMullen said. “She supports all Republican endorsed candidates and has assisted women who want to run for public office in Holmdel. She is the best choice to lead the way in Trenton, along with Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger.”
