Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill released the following statement on the retirement of State Sen. Richard J. Codey:
“For the last 50 years, Governor Dick Codey has epitomized public service as a fighter for the people of New Jersey. His trailblazing legislation has led not only our state, but the nation, on education, equality, gun safety, and countless other achievements. I am particularly grateful for his pioneering work on underserved issues, such as support for those facing mental and behavioral health challenges. As he embarks on a well-deserved retirement, I offer my heartfelt gratitude for his contributions to our community, our state, and our democracy. I would also like to thank the Codey family for sharing their beloved father, husband, and grandfather with us for all these years.”
