Rob Menendez applauds Noriega nomination to state’s top court

Rep. Robert J. Menendez (D-Jersey City), the only Hispanic member of the New Jersey House delegation, is supporting the nomination of Michael Noriega to serve as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Menendez called Noriega an “outstanding pick by Governor Murphy that recognizes the importance of Latino representation on our state’s highest court.”

If confirmed by the State Senate, Noriega would become the first Hispanic justice since Faustino Fernandez-Vina retired last year.

Menendez and Noriega both grew up in Union City.

The 8th district seat, which Menendez won in 2022, is 53% Hispanic.

The freshman Hudson County congressman is the first member of the state’s congressional delegation to weigh in on Murphy’s latest Supreme Court nomination.
