Rabner elevates two judges to appellate court

By David Wildstein, March 24 2020 2:24 pm

Chief Justice Stuart Rabner has announced the temporary assignments of Superior Court Judges Morris Smith and Katie Gummer to the Appellate Division.

Both will assume their posts in September.

Smith, a former general counsel to the Philadelphia Board of Education and Camden city solicitor, was nominated to the Superior Court in 2014.  He is up for tenure next year.

Gummer, the presiding judge of the general equity part of the chancery division in Monmouth County, has been on the bench since 2013.

The 1947 New Jersey State Constitution granted the Chief Justice complete authority over naming appellate court judges.
