State Sen. Joseph Lagana (D-Paramus) is looking forward to meeting Rachel Wainer Apter before signing off on her nomination to the New Jersey Supreme Court.

“I need to do my due diligence to learn more about her” said Lagana, who is one of four Bergen County senators with senatorial courtesy over Wainer Apter, an Englewood resident.

The New Jersey Globe first reported on Sunday that Murphy has decided to pick Wainer Apter to replace retiring Justice Jaynee LaVecchia on the state’s top court.

“I don’t anything about her.  I have never had a chance to meet her,” Lagana said. “What I’ve read about her – I like what I see.”

Wainer Apter is currently the director of the state Division of Civil Rights and a former staff attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union.  A Harvard Law School graduate, she clerked for three federal judges, including U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
