Mark Anderl, the husband of U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas, is facing a third surgery in as many days after being shot during an attack at their North Brunswick home on Sunday evening.

Their son, 20-year-old Daniel Anderl, was killed by the gunman, now identified as anti-feminist lawyer Roy Den Hollander.  Hollander committed suicide after the shooting, federal officials said.

“Everyone is speaking optimistically about him recovering,” said North Brunswick Mayor Francis (Mac) Womack, a family friend.

Anderl was shot in the stomach and arm. He had emergency surgery on Sunday evening at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, and an additional surgery on Monday.

The former assistant Essex County Prosecutor remains in stable condition after being critically wounded in the shooting.

Den Hollander, who had a case pending before Salas, was dying of cancer, according to a New York Daily News report.
