Terrance Matthew Duffy, a decorated former Paterson police officer and the son of Passaic County Commissioner Terry Duffy, died on February 16.  He was 37.

Duffy was an All-County football player at West Milford High School.  After his graduation from the Passaic County Police Academy, he served as a sheriff’s officer before joining the Paterson police department.   He retired after receiving an injury in the line of duty.

“One of his favorite pastimes was spending time crabbing with them at the Jersey shore and talking about superheroes with his nephew Bobby,” his family said.  “He had a passion for food, especially seafood and enjoyed cooking up a fresh catch.”

The Dufy family said that “Terry found his strength in charity, by helping others in need.

“He was a compassionate happy soul with a unique ability to light up a room with his genuine Irish wit,” the family stated.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his mother, Tara, three sibling, including Wayne Board of Education member Sean Duffy, his nieces and nephews, and his cousin, Mark Duffy, the executive director of the Assembly Republican office.

A visitation will be held from 4-8 PM today at Martinez Memorial in Paterson.  A prayer service is set for 11 AM on Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in West Milford, followed by a graveside service at Warwick Cemetery in Warwick, New York.
