NJ-7 Democratic congressional candidate Sue Altman issued the following statement on the death of Rep. Donald Payne, Jr.:
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. His dedication to public service and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others left an indelible mark on his district. Throughout his career, Donald exemplified what it meant to lead with integrity and compassion, putting the people of his district and New Jersey first – always advocating for the most vulnerable among us. I was lucky enough to work with him in our fight for clean energy investments and affordable healthcare. His legacy will not only live on in legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act, but also in the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to know him. My heart goes out to his constituents and colleagues, and I send my deepest condolences to his wife and three children. He has left an incredible legacy in New Jersey and I will miss him dearly.”
