Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin issued the following statement on the death of Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr.:
“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. Tish and I extend our condolences to the Payne family, who have given so much to our state. Representative Payne carried on his family’s legacy of leadership with distinguished service in Newark and Essex County before his election to Congress. We are grateful for that service and hope his loved ones can find comfort in this difficult time.”
