John F. Cryan, a former Morristown Council President, died on January 22.  He was 52.

He was elected to the Morristown Council in 2005, running on a slate headed by Mayor Donald Cresitello.

Cryan served on the Morristown Planning Board and the Morris County Democratic Committee.

A member of a prominent New Jersey political family, he was the brother of Jamie Cryan, a veteran municipal business administrator, nephew of the late Essex County Sheriff John Cryan and a cousin of State Sen. Joseph Cryan (D-Union).

His family said he “lived with a true Irish spirit—marked by a sharp sense of humor, a disarming wit, and an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued.”

Visitation will be held that the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home in Kearny on February 3 from 4-8 PM, and a Catholic Funeral Mass is scheduled for February 4 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Denville at 10 AM.
