Marvin Sykes, a former South Toms River councilman, passed away on January 6. He was 76. A steel worker, Sykes was elected to the council in 2010 as a Democrat, winning by ten votes, and was defeated in his bid for re-election in 2013.
Charles Levi Tice, a founding member of the Sussex County Community College Board of Trustees, died on January 7. He was 84. Tice served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and is a former chairman of the Sussex County Historical Preservation Council.
