Michael Sottolano, a former two-term Jersey City councilman, died on March 4. He was 81. Before his election to the Ward A council seat in 2005 on a ticket with Mayor Jerramiah Healy, he spent three decades as a city employee.
Virginia Tedeschi, the mother of Westfield Democratic Municipal Chairman Bruno Tedeschi, died on February 21. She was 80.
Raymonde Johnson, the widow of former Pleasantville Mayor Robert C. Johnson and the grandmother of NJ Spotlight News editor John Reitmeyer, died on March 4. She was 101.
Sharon Melendes, the first woman to serve on the Montvale council, died on February 29. She was 85.
Edward Avena, a Vineland accountant who served as treasurer of the Cumberland County GOP for seventeen years and as treasurer for former State Sen. Nicholas Asselta’s campaigns, died on February 26. He was 84. He served on the Vineland Zoning Board.
Toots Wertheimer, a former reporter for the Press of Atlantic City, died on February 25. She was 96.
Vincent Apruzzese, a former New Jersey Bar Association president and the law partner of the late Frank X. McDermott, a former Senate President and candidate for governor, died on March 3. He was 95.
John D’Anton, a former Assistant Bergen County Counsel and borough attorney and municipal prosecutor, died on March 1. He was 78. D’Anton is a former District 40 Chairman for the Bergen County Democratic Organization; in 1987, he beat back a challenge by Fair Lawn Councilman Bob Gordon, later a state senator and Board of Public Utilities commissioner.
Carol Welsh, a former Wenonah school board member and Rowan University professor, died on February 24. She was 73.
Robert Gilletti, Jr., who served on the Washington Township (Gloucester County) Planning Board, died on March 4. He was 76.
Robert Scally, a former Allenhurst Planning Board member, died on March 1. He was 82. Scally served in the New Jersey National Guard.
Ted White, a former Salem County Democratic committeeman, died on February 25. He was 81.
Helen Anzevino, a member of the Hackensack Democratic Club, died on February 26. She was 96.
