Joseph Marts, who served as mayor of Chatham in the 1970s, died on October 6. He was 84. Marts staged a stunning up in 1975 to oust Republican incumbent John Davidson by six votes. He did not seek re-election in 1979 but later returned as a councilman. A U.S. Marine veteran, Marts spent 60 years as a volunteer firefighter and later served as a deputy sheriff.
James Sabetta, a former Paulsboro mayor and councilman, died on October 13. He was 69. Sabetta spent 47 years as a Democratic county committeeman.
Kevin Golding, a former deputy clerk and sergeant at arms of the New Jersey State Assembly, died on October 12. He was 80. Golding’s late wife, Bunny, served as a South Orange Village Trustee; his late brother-in-law, Harry McEnroe, had served as an Essex County freeholder and assemblyman.
Dr. Donna Johnson-Thompson, a former member of the New Jersey Commission on the Status of Women, has died. She was 68.
Daniel Larkins, who ran for mayor of Manalapan in 1995 and a former planning board member, died on October 7. He was 65.
Robert Heslin, who served on the Wharton Planning Board, died on October 14. He was 82. Heslin had served as the Wharton Postmaster.
Rocco Pasquinucci, a longtime East Rutherford Democratic county committeeman and a member of the Sheet Metal Local 28 union, died on October 11. He was 83.
Lois Gallagher, a former Republican county committeewoman in Old Tappan, died on October 12. She was 93.
Robert Urban, an international business reporter for Bloomberg who lived in Jersey City, died on September 20. He was 66.
Edward Dotten, a former Summit Municipal Court Judge, died on August 12. He was 95. A U.S. Marine veteran who served in the Korean War, Dotten also served as New Providence Borough Attorney and had served on the Summit Board of Education.
